I live in an old cottage and already have 3 Wi-Fi discs to overcome the issue of thick walls limiting the wifi signal from the hub so its the same issue I guess with DECT radio coverage. I think I will have to go the route of using the adapter for an analogue phone.

Sorry to hear you are having an issue with equipment after the upgrade to the telephone system. To get the older handset to work with the newer hub, you need to re-register the handset from the v1.x hub, the register it with the v2 hub. There's help on the BT website - click here. That should be all you need. With BT Broadband Talk activated, and the phone 'paired' to your Home Hub, you should be able to send and receive calls over the Internet. To have a BT Broadband Talk account. You'll be given a Broadband Talk phone number , and a password. You'll now see some final options that allow you to save the settings you have just entered, and to automatically connect to your Hub when your computer starts. You will now be shown a list of networks that your PC can see. Find your Hub's name in the list and click on it.
Here's some help and advice. The phones do not use wifi, they use DECT. The DECT base station is in the Smart Hub 2. This includes information for tablets and Kindles, not just mobiles.
